Senior additions to Balyasny Leadership Team

Jan 01, 2025

Balyasny continues to deepen the bench of senior leaders to guide the firm's next phase of scaled performance, efficiency, and growth. In recent months, we have announced several additions to the next generation of BAM leadership—including Kevin Byrne, Giuseppe Paleologo, and Kevin Russel—who join us with decades of industry experience and a desire to build.

Kevin Byrne will join Balyasny as global chief operating officer. As the former CFO of Millennium Management and of GS Bank USA at Goldman Sachs, Kevin brings over two decades of experience in leadership roles at global financial services firms. As CFO of Millennium for the past decade, he oversaw and helped manage the growth from ~$24 billion to $60+ billion with strict financial discipline.

Giuseppe Palelogo has joined us as global head of Quantitative Research and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Giuseppe joined BAM from Hudson River Trading, where he served as head of Risk Management. Before that, he was the head of Enterprise Risk at Millennium, director of Equities Quantitative Research at Citadel, a Systematic portfolio manager at Red Alder, and a director at Axioma (now part of Deutsche Börse). Paleologo authored "Advanced Portfolio Management" and is set to publish a second book, "The Elements of Quantitative Investing" in 2025. Paleologo has a Ph.D. in Management Science and Operations Research, a Master of Science in Operations Research, and a Master of Science in Statistics, all from Stanford University. He also has a Master of Science in Physics from the University of Rome.

Kevin Russell will join Balyasny as global head of Multi-Asset Arbitrage. Kevin brings 30 years of trading and management experience in the markets. He joins us from Millennium, where he was a Partner in Global Equities. Prior to that, he held a variety of roles at UBS O’Connor, an independent investment manager housed within UBS, culminating in running the firm as Chief Investment Officer for nearly five years.
